In light of the burgeoning attention of the international legal community to the scheme of natural sciences, the BUE Faculty of Law hosted, for the first time in Egypt, a one-day conference on “Bio-medicine” and “Bioethics” focusing on “The Contemporary International and Regional Perspectives.” The conference was followed by an international workshop on “Medical Acts in the Interest of Others: International Panorama”.
The conference, held on 3 November 2019 in the BUE Auditorium, was open for researchers and interested practitioners from related disciplines and came on the side-lines of the annual workshop organised by the “Réseau Universitaire International de Bioéthique,” an international University-Based Network for Bioethics composed of twenty universities from different countries and divergent legal backgrounds. The Network is concerned with the promotion of interdisciplinary research on biomedicine and bioethics through addressing the different perspectives of the different legal regimes in these countries.
This year, the workshop was organised and hosted by the Faculty of Law’s Centre for Law and Emerging Technologies (CLETs) at the British University in Egypt in cooperation with the Réseau Universitaire International de Bioéthique on 4-5 November 2019 with the participation of twenty professors representing various legal systems. The workshop discussed multiple contemporary legal issues occupying the global scene questioning the “admission or prohibition of the medical acts in the interest of others,” “the basis of authorising those acts” and the “exposure to the medical acts that are legally and/or practically authorized.”
