The Legal Training Centre of the British University in Egypt organized and hosted a closed workshop discussing the “The Medical Acts in the Interest of Others”. The workshop was held from the 4th until the 6th of November 2019 and was conducted in the French Language.
Each of the members of the network, attending the workshop, made an intervention of fifteen minutes. During which they highlight some of the legal matters related to the medical acts committed in the interest of others. The workshop mainly focused on identifying the medical acts which could be done in the interest of others as per the different jurisdictions as well as the main Human Rights related and serving as foundation of legalizing intervention to Human body. The workshop also evolved around discussing some of the main features of the regulation of such acts and the limitations and conditions afforded to it.
While the first day of the workshop was, completely, dedicated to interventions of the participants, the second consisted of an open discussion of the first day contributions as well as suggestions and recommendations on the different stances on the matter.
The second day of the workshop mainly including open discussion for the first day’s interventions. Attendees of the workshop highlighted the common stances between the different legal jurisdictions. They agreed that most of the countries admits some medical acts in the interest of others in cases of necessity and based on the formality previewed by the laws. The participants also concluded that the consent of the donor is one of the main conditions commonly required by the different legislations.
The participant, also, emphasized on the importance of the gratuity requirement of the donation process and the important of this conditions to avoid creation of Human Trafficking consequences or people resorting to accepting medical interventions on their body solely for financial benefits. The speakers further clarified the importance of anonymity of the information of the parties of the medical acts committed in the interest of others for many reasons including the protection of the genetic information of the parties.
