Membership in the CLET:
Aiming to be a pioneer in legal research on national and international levels, the Faculty of Law at the British University in Egypt established the Centre for Law & Emerging Technology (CLET) to lead the nation. The Centre focuses on becoming a recognised scientific entity that specialises in research and aggregates legal consensus to address and legislate appropriate laws relevant to the digital revolution of the 21st century.

The CLET aspires to have an input in the legal drafting process and legislation within the MENA region in regard to law and technology as an interdisciplinary study to advise, recommend, and mediate the current gaps while foreseeing the legal laws and their spillover. Accordingly, the CLET establishes partnerships and corporations with leading research and scientific institutions, such as the Institute for Law and Economics at the University of Hamburg in Germany.

Conferences & Workshops:

The Centre aims to host gatherings and conferences that offer participation opportunities to interact and exchange views and information, as well as discuss contemporary issues in the field of law and its relationship to advanced technology.

These gatherings also aim to identify legal challenges facing advanced technology, especially on the regional level, as well as determining successful methods to address them.

-Holding conferences, seminars, workshops, and giving public lectures in partnership with concerned authorities, universities, and experts to discuss specific topics to reach common societal solutions.

– Holding meetings and seminars with representatives of the governmental and judicial authorities and civil society organisations to apply the results of research in the service of society.

– Issuing scientific brochures that reflect activities and programmes in this field and the recommendations they have produced to put them at the disposal of the relevant authorities in the country to benefit from.

Educational and training programmes

The Centre provides an appropriate environment for developing the skills and capabilities of students, graduates and researchers in legal fields related to technology, through holding various training courses as well as summer schools.

Scientific publications and reports:

The Centre aids in developing legal knowledge in the field of technology, and enriching legal thought in Egypt and the Arab world. In addition, the Centre studies the reality of the contemporary legal environment in order to help diagnose problems and find appropriate solutions to them.

To accomplish this, the Centre seeks to publish a bi-annual scientific journal that accepts publishing in Arabic, English, and French.

It is concerned with spreading specialised legal thought in the field of technology, through publishing research, legal articles and judicial principles related to advanced technology, as well as publishing the work and activities of the Centre.

From this standpoint, the vision of the Centre is that all previous activities require active participation between the Centre and those who are interested in law and technology matters, and for this reason the Centre provides a distinct method that enables this to be achieved: The Scientific membership of the Centre for Law and Advanced Technology Research.
