Since 2020, the Information Technology Law Moot Court Competition has been an annual internal competition held by the Moot Court Unit at The Faculty of Law, The British University in Egypt. The internal rounds of the competition have been instrumental in honing the advocacy skills of BUE law students, preparing them for international mooting participation. These internal rounds remain the primary pathway for selecting the teams and coaches for upcoming participation.
The 2022-2023 academic year marked the competition’s first national edition, expanding participation to include law faculties from across Egypt. It has quickly grown into the largest mooting event in the country, bringing together Egyptian law faculties to argue hypothetical cases in Information Technology law at BUE. These cases often incorporate complex and controversial legal issues.
Breaking new ground in 2023-2024, the Moot Court Unit is thrilled to announce the competition’s expansion to a regional scale, welcoming universities from across Africa and the Middle East. This strategic growth aims to extend the competition’s benefits to a broader and more diverse group of students, fostering a richer exchange of ideas and legal expertise across these regions.
As the first competition of its kind at both national and regional levels organized by an Egyptian university, this year’s IT Law Moot Court Competition marks its second regional edition. It promises to be a milestone event, significantly contributing to the development of legal expertise and discourse in critical areas of law.
